Ealing Readers Award

Five Year 7 students visited Greenford High School for the final of the Ealing Reader Awards. It was raining but we did not let it dampen our spirits.

Ms Sims and Ms Hirani accompanied us on our journey. On arrival, we were escorted to the library where we had some refreshments. Once the other participating schools had arrived (Acton, Brentside, Featherstone, Elthorne Park, Greenford and Cardinal Wiseman) the headmaster gave a short inspirational speech about reading. We were then introduced to the author Jeannie Waudby who is a local writer and the author of One of Us; she led us in a very interesting workshop on how to begin a story.

After a delicious lunch, each school presented their assigned book for the award. Ours was Top of the Class by Tom Gates and we acted out a scene from it. This was really good fun. Everyone then had to vote for their favourite book and favourite presentation by the other attending schools.

While the votes were being counted and verified, Jeannie Waudby signed her book for some of the students and postcards for others. Girl Online on Tour by Zoe Sugg won best book and Greenford High School and Cardinal Wiseman won the best presentations.

It really was a very enjoyable day and we learnt a lot.
