CAREERS

Careers information, advice and guidance is increasingly important in light of the fact that the Government is increasing the age to which all young people in England must continue in education or training, requiring them to continue until the end of the academic year in which they turn 18.

Careers Education takes place in all years in lessons, tutor periods, trips, visits and work experience. We run a series of events throughout the year which are designed to equip students in all years with the knowledge and skills they need to make successful choices and move into work. Further information on students' careers entitlement and the overview of the school's careers programme can be found below.

The School’s Careers Library is open to all students. It contains a comprehensive collection of books, leaflets, prospectuses, and online resources which can be used to research career related topics. The school’s Careers Advisor is available every Monday and Friday for one-to-one interviews and holds drop-in sessions during lunch times. The Careers Advisor is also available at Year 9-13 Parents Evening and exam results days.

In addition to this, students can talk to a National Careers Service Careers Adviser by calling 0800 100 900 or going to the National Careers Service website for more information (see left for details). Parents might also be interested in looking at Parent Adviser, it has lots of hints and tips on how best to support students when they're making decisions about a career.
