Maths and Computing Intent Statement
At Drayton Manor High School, we aim to ensure that all pupils become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics, reason mathematically and solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of routine and non-routine problems.
Our curriculum is based on the security of pupils’ understanding and their readiness to progress to the next stage in their mathematical knowledge. Pupils who grasp concepts rapidly should be challenged through being offered rich and sophisticated problem solving. We value the depth and understanding of the topic, before any acceleration through new content. Those who are not sufficiently fluent with earlier material should consolidate their understanding, before moving on.
Computer Science aims to develop learners who understand the fundamentals of how computers work and be able to use a range of hardware and software to complete tasks. It provides an opportunity to implement computational thinking techniques to solve problems by writing computer programs using blocks and text-based languages.
