Drayton Manor honoured as one of ‘Read for Good’s’ best participants

We are delighted to announce that Drayton Manor High School has been recognised as one of “Read for Good’s” Best Participants, a prestigious accolade that highlights our long-standing commitment to fostering a culture of reading. Since schools began participating in the Read for Good initiative in 1984, Drayton Manor has consistently embraced the challenge with passion and determination.

Our recent readathon, part of the annual fundraising initiative, saw students and staff come together once again, raising an impressive £171.52. This latest contribution brings our total funds raised over recent years to an extraordinary £7,233, achieved through 15 readathons. This achievement not only reflects our commitment to reading but also demonstrates the generosity and dedication of our school community, who have supported this cause for over two decades.

The Read for Good initiative is one that resonates deeply with Drayton Manor’s values. Read for Good is a national charity that encourages schools across the UK to hold sponsored readathons, with the proceeds used to provide books and storytellers for children in hospitals. The initiative aims to make reading fun while supporting a noble cause, enriching the lives of young readers both in our school and beyond. Through our involvement in this program, our students not only strengthen their own literacy skills but also contribute to improving the lives of others.

At the heart of our Readathon efforts has been the dedicated work of our librarian, Ms. Jenkins, who has been a guiding force in fostering a love of reading within our school. Her enthusiasm, along with the unwavering support of our team of student librarians, has been instrumental in organising these events and encouraging participation across year groups.

Ms. Jenkins and her team recently had the honour of accepting a certificate from Read for Good to mark Drayton Manor’s achievement. The student librarians, who have played a crucial role in organising and promoting these readathons, were equally proud to receive this acknowledgment. Their dedication to ensuring the success of the event year after year reflects their love for reading and their desire to give back to the community.

As we celebrate this incredible milestone, we look forward to continuing our participation in future readathons, further strengthening our commitment to reading and community service.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Ms. Jenkins, the student librarians, and the student participants.
